Aston Villa are interested in signing Tottenham and England midfielder Eric Dier, according to The Sun.

Dier, who can also play centre back, has fallen out of favour under Mauricio Pochettino this season and has made just one Premier League appearance this term – the 3-0 Premier League defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend.

The 25-year-old has mostly been a starter since arriving from Sporting Lisbon back in 2014, but since suffering a hip problem in December which forced him to miss nine matches, combined with the form of both Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks and the arrival of record-signing Tanguy Ndombele, Dier has been pushed down the pecking order in the midfield department.

And if Dier wants to enhance his playing time and revive his international career, then a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium looks his best bet – and despite splashing out more than £100m this summer, Dean Smith is keen on bringing him to Villa Park this January to bolster their chances of avoiding relegation.
