Rafael van der Vaart has told Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to sign Ajax star Hakim Ziyech next summer.
Ziyech scored 21 goals last season as Ajax won the domestic double in the Netherlands and reached the Champions League semi-finals, where they lost to Spurs. The Moroccan scored in the second leg and came close to adding two more goals only to see Lucas Moura score an extraordinary hat-trick at the other end.
Ajax lost Tottenham targets of old Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt to Bacelona and Juventus respectively in the summer but managed to retain other key players such as Ziyech and Donny van de Beek, who have also been linked with Spurs in the past.
But van der Vaart, who played for Ajax and Tottenham, believes the Londoners should try to sign Ziyech at the end of the season.
“I really hope he goes to Tottenham Hotspur, and I think he will,” he said (via Voetbal Primeur).
“I sent a message today to [Spurs chairman Daniel] Levy. I said ‘get Ziyech after this season’. I am convinced that he will become a sensation in London. And I also wish that for him.”
Ziyech has already scored six goals this season and would be an ideal replacement for ex-Ajax ace Christian Eriksen, who looks to be on his way out of Spurs. But Daniel Levy may face some competition from other clubs around Europe.
What’s the point even if he could make a difference poch will say no. Unless he is from Argentina poch will say no. He has overseen some dross in the five or so years in charge.
