Tottenham are interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Carles Alena in the January transfer window, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The 21-year-old scored two goals in 27 appearances in an impressive breakthrough season at the Nou Camp last term, but since the arrival of Frenkie de Jong from Ajax, Alena has been pushed down the pecking order and since he was pulled off at half-time during Barcelona’s opening day defeat at Athletic Bilbao, Alena hasn’t played a single minute for the Spanish champions, although he was an unused substitute for their victory over Real Valladolid last night.
Manager Ernesto Valverde recently said that the youngster deserves to play and would be keen for the midfielder to move out on loan in January to gain valuable first-team experience knowing his chances at Barcelona are likely to be limited.
And Spurs, who could be in desperate need for a fourth centre midfielder – with both Victor Wanyama and Eric Dier heavily linked with moves away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – are reportedly interesting in doing a deal with Barcelona for the promising Spanish Under-21 international, who they also tried to sign the summer.
The Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo are reporting that Mauricio Pochettino is a huge admirer of Alena, who is expected to have a big future at the Nou Camp.
