Tottenham fans have been reacting angrily after Mauricio Pochettino said that he’s happy with the form of Christian Eriksen – admitting that the Dane’s form hasn’t dropped from the previous four years.

Eriksen, who has registered just one goal and provided one assist in 12 appearances for Spurs this season, produced another gutless performance during the defeat to Everton on Sunday – an afternoon where the midfielder failed to create a single chance.

Reliable Tottenham journalist Alasdair Gold is currently in Belgrade for tomorrow’s crucial Champions League tie against Red Star and asked questioned Pochettino whether he continues to play Eriksen in hope that he’ll eventually come good again.

Pochettino’s response was quite predictable. He said: “I don’t think the performance of Christian is any different than when we signed him five and a half years ago. His commitment is the same as five year ago, and I am happy with him.

“Sometimes we look too much at whether players have a four or a five year contract. Look too much about whether a player has a one year contract or a four year contract, in the end it is about commitment. Maybe players in the last year of their contract show more commitment than a player with four more years on their contract.

“When you see Christian and you compare him to different seasons, he is the same player. He got an injury with the national team on his groin and pre-season was not the best pre-season for him. Commitment and the way he is doing I am happy with him.”

Spurs fans were understandably angry with the Argentine’s comments. Here are some of the best below.

  1. This is amazing. I said it before Poch has lost it. Why play an unfit or injured player. The entire team is under performing. The league table show Spurs is making one step forward and two backwards. Close to relegation zone than top 4. Can Levi take control of the situation before it gets unrepairable. Poch has passed his sell by date. Let him go…

    • Poch did say he’s got no problem with his application in training!! So he’s OK with him keeping fit for his next club. Just isn’t watch him in the games!! That’s why he keeps making subs to late.
Have we played the same 11 players two games in a row yet this season?

  4. It is so sad that both Poch & Eriksen are ending their stay in Spurs on an abyssmal note. Spurs last season in the Champions League is blamed squarely at his recalcitrant attitude towards playing the same losers time after time & getting negative outcomes. Adios muchacho!
