Tottenham are reportedly interesting in making a surprise move for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, according to Sports Mole.
The former French striker, who sits 6th in Los Blancos’ all-time top goalscorer list with 233, has made an excellent start to the season and has netted braces in each of Madrid’s last two matches against Galatasaray and Eibar.
Since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus last summer, the 31-year-old has become the Spanish outfit’s main man, although Benzema has less than 18 months left on his current contract and could perhaps be tempted by the Premier League.
According to reports in Spain, Benzema is keen to extend his time at the Bernabeu, but has received offers from both Spurs and London rivals Chelsea.
It would go against Mauricio Pochettino’s usual philosophy of predominantly signing younger players, but the Argentine did capture Fernando Llorente at 32 and remains in desperate need of someone to share the workload with Harry Kane, who has suffered from a number of ankle injuries over the previous few seasons.
Kane, who signed a long-term contract last season, might have to consider his Tottenham future at the club if they finish outside the top-four and fail to win a trophy.
