Eric Dier is set to start against Bournemouth, according to the Sun, despite being substituted midway through the first half of Tottenham’s Champions League win over Olympiacos on Wednesday.

The midfielder was sacrificed for a more attacking option in Christian Eriksen when Spurs surprisingly went two goals behind in midweek. Jose Mourinho apologised to Dier after the game, insisting the decision was made for the good of the team.

It certainly worked. Tottenham ended up winning 4-2 and Eriksen was central to the team’s improvement, providing the assist for Harry Kane’s second goal.

But the Sun claims Dier will come back into the team for Saturday’s Premier League clash with Bournemouth. It looks like there is a good chance Mourinho will go with the exact line-up we predicted in our Possible XI, with Dier partnering Harry Winks in central midfield again.

That means the likes of Eriksen, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso will have to settle for a place on the bench, unless Mourinho decides to switch out one of his attackers for another midfielder.

Stay tuned for confirmed team news around an hour before the 3pm kick-off.

  1. I really don’t see how Harry Winks and Eric Dier are better central midfielders than Moussa Sissoko and Tanguy Ndombele? Harry Winks passes back and sideways and still loses the ball, while Eric Dier has had his chances for Spurs playing in at lease 3 positions from central midfield to the center back position and he has shown that he is not good enough.

    • Jose is picking his team base on needs. He want a tackler in Dier to ensure he is playing 5 backs basically. Winks is better on the ball moving it out of pockets. It is not about the individual that are better, it is the composition of the team to play the style the mananger wants. I would have gone for Tanguy over one of the two, but, I also get the fact Jose wants a point from every game and will take the win. Playing a consistent 11 for a few games allows you to see where the other needs are instead of cutting and chopping every game for the sake of it. The bench should be angry, hungry and ready knowing this manager will summon you anytime.
