Eric Dier is set to start against Bournemouth, according to the Sun, despite being substituted midway through the first half of Tottenham’s Champions League win over Olympiacos on Wednesday.
The midfielder was sacrificed for a more attacking option in Christian Eriksen when Spurs surprisingly went two goals behind in midweek. Jose Mourinho apologised to Dier after the game, insisting the decision was made for the good of the team.
It certainly worked. Tottenham ended up winning 4-2 and Eriksen was central to the team’s improvement, providing the assist for Harry Kane’s second goal.
But the Sun claims Dier will come back into the team for Saturday’s Premier League clash with Bournemouth. It looks like there is a good chance Mourinho will go with the exact line-up we predicted in our Possible XI, with Dier partnering Harry Winks in central midfield again.
That means the likes of Eriksen, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso will have to settle for a place on the bench, unless Mourinho decides to switch out one of his attackers for another midfielder.
Stay tuned for confirmed team news around an hour before the 3pm kick-off.
