Tottenham forward Heung-Min Son has been named AFC Asian International Player of the Year for 2019, it has been confirmed.

Son has picked up the award for the third year running following another impressive year in a South Korea shirt. He reached the quarter-finals of the Asian Cup in January, just a month after winning a gold medal and exemption from mandatory military service at the 2018 Asian Games.

The 26-year-old missed part of Spurs’ season last term as a result of his participation in multiple international competitions, but he still managed to score 20 goals in 2018/19 for his club. Son has found the net three times in 13 appearances for South Korea this year.

Tottenham marked Son’s award with a celebratory post on Twitter. Having become a fan favourite over the last few years, Son was congratulated by numerous supporters on social media for his latest achievement.

After providing two assists against Bournemouth on Sunday, Son spoke highly of Jose Mourinho’s impact at Spurs so far – read more here. The attacker will be hoping for another start when the Londoners travel to Manchester United on Wednesday night.
