Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has revealed he is unsure if the club wants to recruit Lille sporting director Luis Campos.
Mourinho worked with Campos at Real Madrid and the pair were pictured together at Lille matches in the weeks leading up to Mourinho’s appointment as Spurs boss. Some of the Portuguese’s backroom staff also came from Lille.
Campos is renowned for bringing unproven players into clubs and turning them into stars. During his time at Monaco, he recruited the likes of Fabinho and Bernardo Silva, and he was responsible for finding Arsenal’s record signing Nicolas Pepe for Lille.
When Mourinho joined Tottenham there was initially talk of Campos joining him, but those rumours have died down in recent weeks. Mourinho was asked about the possibility of Campos joining him during his press conference on Friday, but he did not seem confident about a deal.
“At Tottenham? I don’t know,” Mourinho said (via the Telegraph). “Luis Campos worked with me at Real Madrid. Luis Campos is a big friend of mine. Luis Campos is doing great in his career with Monaco and Lille. I work at Tottenham with the structure that the club wants me to work.”
Given Spurs’ confusing transfer strategy over the last couple of years – particularly when it comes to selling players – it could be argued that the club needs a sporting director to oversee recruitment. Campos would be ideal, but we will have to wait and see if it is a possibility.
