Tottenham Hotspur travel to Southampton in their opening Premier League game of 2020 and they’ll be looking to bounce back from their disappointing 2-2 draw with bottom of the table Norwich City on Boxing Day.

With a fourth game in the space of 11 days, Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is once again expected to shuffle his pack at St Mary’s.

We think that Mourinho will revert back to four at the back, making a total of four changes to the side that were held at Carrow Road.

Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko both return from suspension, whilst Heung Min Son serves the final game of his three-match ban for his sending off against Chelsea last week.

Davinson Sanchez looks certain to return to the starting XI in place of Juan Foyth, whilst Ryan Sessegnon could start for a third game on the spin, but this time at left-back.

In midfield, we could see Eric Dier return after he was rested against the Canaries, alongside Tanguy Ndombele – with Erik Lamela, making his first start since October, and Lucas Moura, joining the in form Dele Alli and Harry Kane in attack for Tottenham.

Here’s our expected XI to face Southampton – what’s yours? Let us know in the comments section below.

XI: Gazzaniga, Aurier, Sanchez, Alderweireld, Sessegnon, Dier, Ndombele, Lamela, Alli, Lucas, Kane.

  1. The transfer window will open next year (ie tomorrow). Spurs’ biggest weakness is at right back, a situation that hasn’t been properly addressed since Kyle Walker left to win trophies in Manchester. There are other problems but a top-class RB must be the number one priority. Let’s hope that The Moaning One will get it resolved.

  2. Youcef Atal for RB, Boubakary Soumaré for DM and Jared Bowen for a new attacking option. Hopefully Jan will sign a new contract also. That’s my realistic shopping list

  3. Atal out for rest of the season after knee injury so will have to rethink that one unless we wait for next season which I do not think we can do as the right back position needs to be sorted now.
