Tottenham have held talks with the representatives of Chelsea star Willian over a shock January move, according to the Express.

Willian, who is out of contract at the end of the season, came very close to joining Spurs in the summer of 2013 when Andre Villas-Boas was given huge funds to replace the outgoing Gareth Bale. At the time there was even talk that Tottenham paid for Willian’s flight to London, only for the Brazilian to sign for Chelsea despite completing a medical at Hotspur Way.

Since then, Willian has made Spurs pay for their failure to get a deal over the line. The winger scored twice in the 2016-17 FA Cup semi-final clash between the sides and found the net with a stunning goal in Chelsea’s 2-0 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last month.

It is perhaps a surprise, then, to see the Express report that Spurs have made contact with Willian’s representatives. The 31-year-old won a Premier League title under Mourinho at Stamford Bridge in the 2014/15 season, so the link makes sense in that regard. But the rivalry between the London clubs makes a deal very unlikely. File this one under pure speculation.

  1. Willian is a good player but playing under a coach happy to experiment than winning games.I support Chelsea but not a fan of Lampard as coach
