Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta has denied making contact with Tottenham over a deal for Christian Eriksen but admits the Dane is an “interesting player”.
On Monday, we relayed a report suggesting Inter are willing to pay £17 million for Eriksen, who is out of contract at the end of the season. The midfielder is now able to discuss pre-contract terms with foreign clubs about a free transfer in the summer, but his suitors may prefer to sign him this month for a fee.
Later the same day, Italian outlet Il Messaggero claimed Inter have already lodged their first offer, but it is thought to be just £8.5 million. That’s unlikely to be anywhere near Spurs’ valuation – it could simply be a starting point for the negotiations.
However, it appears those negotiations are yet to take place. Marotta has confirmed Inter have not been in touch with Tottenham, admitting Eriksen is likely to have a number of clubs chasing him.
“We have not had any contact with Tottenham,” Marotta said (via Fabrizio Romano). “Eriksen is an excellent player and [his contract] is about to expire, but I think the race is on [for] many teams. I’m absolutely not here to say that we are starting negotiations. But Eriksen is an important and interesting player.”
It looks like January will be a hectic month when it comes to rumours concerning Eriksen. Jose Mourinho will hope it doesn’t affect his performances.
Just sell him already! So sick of the Spurs dawdling every single transfer window. Can’t they see that this affects their ability to win anything?
An article that doesn’t say anything. He might he might not. They have they haven’t.
