Tottenham have contacted Manchester City about signing defender Joao Cancelo, according to El Desmarque.
Jose Mourinho is keen to bolster Spurs’ defensive department – with Kyle Walker-Peters set to leave on loan, leaving Serge Aurier, who was rested against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup on Tuesday, as the only recognised right-back at the club.
Cancelo joined Manchester City in a £27.4m deal from Juventus last summer, but has struggled for regular first-team football under Pep Guardiola. The 25-year-old has made just six Premier League starts this season and reports in Spain are suggesting that Cancelo is unhappy about his current situation and lack of minutes on the pitch.
Reports also claims that Mourinho is ready to offer the Portuguese defender a “key role”, but Cancelo is also considering offers from Spain.
If Spurs do let Kyle Walker-Peters leave, then they’ll need to replace the 22-year-old, especially with an FA Cup 4th Round tie to come against the Saints and the return of the Champions League next month and Cancelo could be an ideal replacement.
Great buy but don’t expect Pep to sanction the move
Cant wait to see Spurs buy new defender and Striker
All teams in premier league has two and few 3 striker but spurs has only one striker so it is not wise and Spurs is in mess with defence if no new defender then spurs will always concede goal every match
Not sure why he signed when walker was well entrenched. Pep wanted startersquality at every position you SOL if you are the second choice. Serves him right.
