Gareth Bale’s agent has revealed that he expects the Real Madrid forward to run down his contract at the Santiago Berbabeu – and ruled out the possibility of a return to former side Tottenham in the January transfer window.

The 30-year-old Welsh international, who has two-and-a-half years left on his current deal, has been continuously linked with a return to north London, ever since he joined the Spanish giants for a world-record fee back in 2013 – and rumours have once again resurfaced in the current window with Spurs in desperate need of an attacking player to replace the injured Harry Kane.

But Jonathan Barnett said that Bale is “happy” in the Spanish capital – despite making just 12 appearances in La Liga this season – and denied any possibility of the flying winger, who scored 55 goals in 203 games for Spurs between 2007 and 2013, returning to the capital.

Speaking at the Association of Football Agents meeting at Barnet Football Club, Barnett told Sky Sports News: “He is fine. He is happy. He is one of the best players on earth. Why would he go anywhere on loan.”

Asked whether he expects the Welshman to stay and run down his contract at the La Liga outfit, Barnett continued: “That’s what I have always said. Things could change, but loans are ridiculous. There are not many clubs who can afford him anyway. He is happy, he will play at Real Madrid and hopefully he can win a couple more things.

Sky Sports reporter Bryan Swanson then questioned the 69-year-old business man whether he thinks there is any chance that Bale could make a shock return to Tottenham in January. “I am an Arsenal supporter, thank you very much,” Barnett joked.
