The Tottenham Hotspur great Teddy Sheringham is back in the limelight, years after his peak years as a footballer with Spurs, Manchester United and England.
Sheringham was revealed to be one of the celebrities performing in secret on the bizarre ITV show The Masked Singer. It was another colourful chapter to add to the remarkable life of Sheringham. Here are four surprising facts about the former Tottenham striker.
4. He used to have a proper job
Prior to devoting his life to being a professional footballer, Sheringham worked a as a roofer. For one day…
In 2017 he told FourFourTwo magazine how at 16-years old he had spent a day on a building site to earn more money. “I helped a mate who was a builder in east London near where I lived.
“I didn’t like getting up early but I liked the morning fry-up. I ripped my hands to bits and didn’t enjoy it. He rang me the next day to ask where I was. I told him I didn’t have another day in me.”
3. Teddy dated Miss Great Britain
Sheringham was one of the judges at the 2006 Miss Great Britain awards and he ended up going out with the winner.
Danielle Lloyd and Sheringham were an item between February 2006 and February 2007. The footballer ended the relationship following Lloyd’s spell on Celebrity Big Brother, in which she became embroiled in a racial controversy with the actress Shilpa Shetty.
Lloyd’s spell with Sheringham sparked an interest in dating Tottenham footballers. She would later go out with Jermain Defoe and then married Jamie O’Hara.
2. He’s a serious poker player
Since retiring as a footballer at the advanced age of 42, Sheringham has replaced the thrill of the football pitch with the mental challenges of the poker table.
Rather than playing online, Sheringham takes poker seriously, playing on the live social casino scene. Though not a full-time professional, Sheringham has a long history of playing in major poker tournaments across the world.
The highlight of Sheringham’s poker career came at the EPT Main Event tournament in Vilamoura, Portugal. Teddy finished fifth and walked away with a prize of $118,346.

Any Spurs fan who happened to tune in to fourth episode of The Masked Singer will have been met with a surreal scene.
Sheringham was revealed to be a performing tree, after losing a sing off against someone dressed as an Octopus. Once unmasked, Teddy closed the show with an emotional version of the Will Young hit Evergreen.
