Troy Parrott has finally signed a new contract with Tottenham, committing to the club until the summer of 2023.
Spurs announced the news on Friday via their official website, expressing delight at Parrott’s decision to remain in north London for the next three-and-a-half years.
The 18-year-old impressed during pre-season but has barely featured since the beginning of the campaign, though Jose Mourinho did hand him his Premier League debut against Burnley in December. There was a nice moment when Mourinho gave Parrott the match ball at full-time to mark the occasion.
Despite Harry Kane being ruled out until at least April with a serious hamstring injury, Parrott has not been given the opportunity to fill in as a back-up centre-forward. Tottenham tried to sign a new striker in January but failed in their pursuits.
Perhaps now he has signed a new contract, Parrott will be given more minutes between now and the end of the season. He clearly has a lot of talent and promise, but question marks remain over whether he will be a future regular.
In any case, Spurs fans were very happy with the news. Here are some of the best Twitter reactions.

This no kid, like Tanganga he is an 18yrs man. I submit that any player with back to goal. Holding off defenders and trap the ball in his chest his a keeper. I need not see anymore to tell me he is ready.
