Jose Mourinho has talked up Jack Grealish’s ability ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Aston Villa this weekend.
Spurs travel to Villa Park aiming to secure a third successive Premier League win, but they face the difficult task of keeping the hosts’ captain Grealish quiet in their pursuit of all three points.
Grealish was heavily linked with a move to Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham in the summer of 2018 when Villa were still in the Championship. A deadline day deal fell through at the last minute, but Grealish would eventually find his way to the Premier League with his boyhood club via the Championship play-offs.
His performances have been excellent since Villa’s promotion, and Mourinho has heaped praise on the 24-year-old when asked about the threat he poses ahead of Sunday’s clash.
“Very important player for them. Very important,” Mourinho said in a press conference on Friday (via Football London).
“They have their way of playing. Maybe they change against us but the normal Villa is with this back five, the midfield players and then Grealish is a player with creative freedom, with an area of action that’s very important of course.
“Very talented, can score a goal, can make an assist, incredible connection with the fans. So easy to feel immediately that he’s one of them. He’s capable of making the crowd chase the team. A very important player for them for sure.”
Grealish would improve just about any of the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’ sides, and it will be interesting to see if Spurs revive their interest in the playmaker at any point in the future. There is certainly room for a new creative player in the squad following Christian Eriksen’s exit.
If Grealish would leave Aston Villa ,Spurs should buy him whatever the cost.
Of all Daniel Levy’s f… ups and there have been many, not completing the purchase of Grealish in the summer of 2018 must rank as the worse.
Criminal and pathetic,
