Tottenham forward Heung Min Son could miss the rest of the season with a fractured arm.

The 27-year-old, who scored twice against Aston Villa including a stoppage-time winner, sustained the injury in the opening minutes of the victory at Villa Park, but surprisingly ended up playing 90 minutes.

Spurs confirmed that Son will undergo surgery on his right arm and is expected to miss at least the next seven games, including Saturday’s crucial Premier League trip to Chelsea.

The club released a statement earlier today and initially revealed that the South Korean will be sidelined for a number of weeks – but Jose Mourinho, speaking during his pre-match press conference before Wednesday’s Champions League game against RB Leipzig, revealed that Son might not play again this season.

Mourinho told Football.London: “I’m not going to count on him again this season. If he plays two or three games then it’s because he (his press officer) is very optimistic, but I’m not counting on him.”

Reliable Tottenham journalist Alasdair Gold told Twitter this afternoon that the severity of Son’s arm injury won’t become clear until he has his surgery – but the South Korean will miss a minimum of six weeks.
