Ben Davies was omitted from Tottenham’s squad to face Burnley on Saturday because of a hamstring injury, according to the London Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick.
The Welshman was injured in Spurs’ first game under Mourinho last November and only recently regained full fitness. But after playing three matches in a row immediately after returning, he has now apparently tweaked his hamstring.
Rumours circulated about a possible injury throughout Saturday before the news was confirmed by Kilpatrick on Twitter after the Tottenham line-up was confirmed.
#thfc Confirmed that Davies misses out through injury. Still unclear on details but it’s hardly a great surprise after he was flogged by Mourinho with 3x90mins in a week after returning from injury.

Jan Vertonghen was handed the left-back spot once again at Burnley after impressing in the role against Norwich City in midweek. Still, Davies’ injury is a big blow with Spurs still battling in two competitions and Vertonghen struggling to keep up his own fitness.
In better news, Ryan Sessegnon was back in the squad at Turf Moor following an injury, giving Mourinho another left-back option before next week’s trip to RB Leipzig in the Champions League Round of 16 second leg. Tottenham will be hopeful Davies’ hamstring injury isn’t a serious one, but the full extent of the problem is currently unknown.
