Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is keen to enter negotiations with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, and Harry Kane is a potential summer target for the Red Devils, according to the London Evening Standard.

The report suggests Woodward and United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are both admirers of Kane, with Woodward said to have been eager to sign the England captain ‘for years’.

It goes on to say that the United chief would relish negotiations with Levy having missed out on the opportunity to do so over Mauricio Pochettino. Woodward handed Solskjaer the manager’s job permanently last year, leaving Pochettino at Spurs before he was sacked in November.

The Standard also believes Woodward was prepared to pay £85 million for Gareth Bale in 2013 but the Welshman had his heart set on a move to Real Madrid. Kane will apparently – and rather obviously – cost more than that. So if they do happen, negotiations between Woodward and Levy are likely to go on for some time.

Hopefully Kane can return to fitness soon and Tottenham can convince him to stay this summer, regardless of whether the club qualifies for the Champions League.
