Steven Bergwijn is set for an “extended period rehabilitation” after suffering a “significant ankle sprain”, Tottenham have confirmed.
The Dutchman is the latest in a long line of injuries at the club, particularly among the squad’s forwards. Harry Kane has been out since New Year’s Day because of a ruptured tendon in his left hamstring, while Son Heung-min fractured his arm against Aston Villa last month and could be out for the rest of the season.
Ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League Round of 16 second leg against RB Leipzig, Spurs revealed Bergwijn sprained his left ankle in the Premier League draw with Burnley at the weekend.
He is now set to join Kane, Son and Moussa Sissoko on the sidelines as Tottenham’s injury luck gets even worse. Jose Mourinho was already short on attacking options – now the Londoners face the task of winning in Germany without yet another potential goalscorer.
