Philippe Coutinho was ‘outraged’ when Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy changed the terms of a deal to take the midfielder to Spurs last summer, according to reports in Spain.
Currently on loan at Bayern Munich from Barcelona, Coutinho was strongly linked with a move to Tottenham ahead of the 2019/20 season when Mauricio Pochettino was still in charge.
Spurs ended up signing Giovani Lo Celso instead, initially on loan before making the deal permanent in the January transfer window. And now, details have emerged as to why Coutinho’s move didn’t come to fruition.
According to Spanish outlet Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness), an agreement was in place before Levy attempted to secure a cheaper deal at the last minute. This saw the move fall apart, which apparently left Coutinho ‘outraged’.
The report goes on to claim Coutinho will not join Bayern Munich permanently this summer, and Spurs will also not be in the running to sign the Brazilian as a result Levy’s exploits.
With Lo Celso flourishing Tottenham aren’t desperate for a new attacking midfielder, but Coutinho would strength any squad and it’s a shame he is no longer a target – if reports are to be believed.
