Barcelona have offered defenders Samuel Umtiti and Nelson Semedo in exchange for Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, according to Sky Sports.
However, Sky Sports suggests Jose Mourinho wants a more defensive-minded midfielder than Arthur, and so Barcelona have offered a pair of defenders instead.
The reason they want to exchange players rather than buy Ndombele outright is apparently because of the financial uncertainty caused by the ongoing coronavirus crisis. The report claims Umititi – a left-footed centre-back– and Semedo – an attacking right-back – are the players in question.
Spurs are likely to need two recruits of that description in the summer. Jan Vertonghen’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, meaning he will be free to leave. And Serge Aurier will need competition if Kyle Walker-Peters is moved on, as has also been suggested by Sky Sports.
It will be interesting to see if Tottenham are willing to allow Ndombele to leave in exchange for those players. Or perhaps Mourinho will be keen to explore the possibility of different Barcelona stars moving to north London.
