Tottenham have informed Norwich City of their interest in signing playmaker Todd Cantwell, according to Football Insider.
Cantwell has made an impressive step up to the Premier League with the struggling Canaries this season, scoring six goals in 31 appearances across all competitions.
Football Insider claims Spurs ‘have made enquiries’ about the 23-year-old playmaker ahead of a possible summer transfer despite putting recruitment on hold during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
The Londoners could apparently face competition from Liverpool and Manchester City for Cantwell, whose current contract with Norwich expires in the summer of 2022.
Tottenham are yet to directly replace Christian Eriksen since the Dane left for Inter Milan in the January transfer window, although Giovani Lo Celso has gradually become the team’s main creative outlet.
Still, Spurs could do with another playmaker in the squad, and Cantwell would also increase the club’s homegrown quota for next term.
Whether he would want to join a club not competing in the Champions League is unclear. If that’s the case, Liverpool would obviously be in the driving seat for his signature ahead of Tottenham and Manchester City.
Playmaker? You’re using that word pretty liberally.
