Tottenham are interested in signing Ajax starlet Sergino Dest, according to reports in Italy.

Dest, a 19-year-old USA international, made 20 appearances in the Eredivisie before the Dutch football season was cancelled last month, emerging as one of the brightest young talents in the Netherlands and America.

The right-back denied he is close to joining Bayern Munich after he was spotted at the Allianz Arena attending a match earlier this year.

Per Ajax Life (as relayed by Ajax 1), he said: “I was mainly there because I have family there. I thought if Bayern is really going to get interested, I want to know a bit about how the club works. So I thought it would be nice to check it out. But it was not that I was invited by Bayern, as suggested. There was nothing else behind it.”

There has been no movement on a possible transfer to Bayern since then, and now Dest is being linked with Spurs.

Italian outlet Calcio Mercato claims the Londoners are keen on the teenager, but there are no further details. The very short report reveals just two things: Tottenham’s interest and the fact Dest’s contract expires in the summer of 2020.

With just two two years remaining on his current deal, Ajax might be eager to sell Dest in case he begins to run down his contract.

Spurs are in need of a right-back with Serge Aurier needing competition and Kyle Walker-Peters – currently on loan at Southampton – facing an uncertain future.

  1. Looks a very uninspiring link. Aurier is a very good attacking right back, and Tanganga is emerging as a very good defensive right back/centre back whose devlopment may be stunted by another right back coming in. Both have plenty of improvement they can still make that we would hope Jose can squeeze out of them with a full pre season.

I think we need 3 positions as a definite this summer.

Defensive midfield – only sissoko who will be 31 at the start of the season has any energy in his play in our midfield and with Lo Celso, Alli and Ndombele being super skillful but needing protection and energy to show their best my first choice would be Konrad Laimer from Leipzig as he looks top drawer and could provide the energy which is missing from our midfield. He has excellent passing, balance, control, pace and could be perfect to balance out our other midfield options. Wanyamas legs went years ago and Dier and Winks have failed to really shine in this season, even though I still rate Winks ability to calm down play on the biggest of stages. Sergej Milinkovic Savic is a less energetic alternative who may take time to adapt to the prem.

Attacking midfield creator- Lo Celso and Lamela wont stay fit for a season, they are both gamechangers but are very combative players and will pick up injuries as they have this season and assuming that Madison, Grealish, Dybala and Sancho are out of our price range that would leave Coutinho, Mikel Oyarzarbal, Kai Havertz, Nkunku and Rodrigo De Paul as possibles unless by some Miracle the others drop in price for some odd reason in this odd time. I would hope Jose is aware of the situation from how much he wanted eriksen to stay an how much we suffered without him, even with lo celsos emergence. We are competing with teams who start multiple playmakers and I dont think its so easy to get by with just one nowadays. Eriksen was a rare superstar playmaker who consistently created chances for most of his time at spurs and seldom got injured. It was always kind of inevitable that we would need 2 to replace him. The lack of a playmaker and lo celso preferring to play midfield is why our attacks are so bland, why we seldom got into the final 3rd in the champions league final etc etc.

Back up striker – theres plenty of possibles but i like 19 year old Myron Boadu from AZ Alkmaar as he looks like a quality hungry young striker, full of confidence and who could develop into a top player.

Outside of these 3 extremely problematic positions that have really cost us this season and will again next season, I think left back is a concern as Sessegnon is miles off the pace, unless Jose can develop him massively, meanwhile Davies lacks the pace to cope with the many faster attackers in the league.

  2. Like Bulwarks comment.

Deffo need to bring in a Defensive midfielder and maybe switch to a 433. Would then bring the best out of lo celso and Ndombele and Gedson a good prospect. I’d like to see someone like Zakaria or Camavinga . Would like to see someone like foyth utilised there also.

Creative Midfield I agree with also, alli very hot and cold. Still think Van de Beek would be a good option in that midfield mix. Havertz too but think hell be too expensive. Houssem Aoar I like too from Lyon, hed compliment Ndombele
Or alternatively someone like Isco be a great signing.

I also think we need to bolster the defence with a CB although bit of a conundrum as to who to bring in there as Sanchez and Alderweireld a good partnership is both in form with Dier and Tananga also. If those 4 find some form then there is no rush to get a quality CB.

I think RB needs to be addressed , Aurier is a liability. For me Youcef Atal would be my first choice. Followed by Mukiele, Semedo , or Aaron’s.
