Tottenham have made enquiries about Barcelona defender Emerson, according to reports in Spain.

Emerson, a 21-year-old right-back, is currently on loan at Real Betis for whom he has made 24 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring three goals and registering five assists (via Transfermarkt).

The Brazil youth international joined Barcelona from Brazilian side Atletico-MG last summer but was immediately shipped out on loan. His contract with Barcelona runs until the summer of 2024.

Spanish outlet Dario de Sevilla, which is local to Betis, claims Tottenham are among a group of clubs that have ‘asked about his situation’. It is believed Betis have an agreement to buy Emerson, though Barcelona can cancel the move by paying a fee to Betis.

All of which points towards a permanent move to Betis not being completely set in stone, opening the door for the likes of Spurs, Inter Milan and Bayer Leverkusen to potentially swoop.

Tottenham are in desperate need of a new right-back with Serge Aurier continuing to be a problem on and off the pitch and Kyle Walker-Peters facing an uncertain future. Emerson’s stats suggest he would be an ideal addition to the squad, but only time will tell if Spurs are genuinely interested.
