Ryan Sessegnon and Oliver Skipp have been named on the initial shortlist for the 2020 European Golden Boy award.

The award, that was started by Italian news outlet Tuttosport in 2003, recognises Europe’s top young talents under the age of 21. And, on Monday, a shortlist of 100 players was announced – which included 21 others from the Premier League.

The likes of Jadon Sancho and Alphonso Davies have both been included as this crop of youngsters bid to follow in the footsteps of previous winners such as Wayne Rooney, Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Paul Pogba, Raheem Sterling and Kylian Mbappe.

Despite a stop-start campaign, Sessegnon has been named on the shortlist for a second consecutive year.

The 20-year-old, who scored on his full Spurs debut against Bayern Munich in December, has made 12 appearances since joining from Fulham on deadline day last summer – and started Tottenham’s previous two matches prior to the suspension of English football.

Meanwhile, Skipp, who is admired by Jose Mourinho, has continued his development this season, featuring eight times in all competitions and was handed just his second start of the campaign in the FA Cup against Norwich prior to the break, before his impressive performance saw him keep his place at Burnley four days later – just his third Premier League start.

The winner will be revealed later this year and can see the full list of 100 players here.
