Jose Mourinho is on the verge of completing his first summer signing – with Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg set to undergo his Tottenham medical on Monday, according to Sky Sports.
Spurs have been chasing the Danish midfielder for a numbers of weeks and look to have fought off major competition from the likes of Everton, who reportedly had a £25m bid accepted for Hojbjerg last month, which is £10m less than Tottenham are expected to pay.
Hojbjerg was stripped of the captaincy at St Mary’s prior to the lockdown after revealing his desire to play in the Champions League. He’d featured just five more times for the Saints after those comments – with his final appearance on the south Coast coming in their 2-0 victory at Bournemouth in late-July.
If the former Bayern Munich successfully completes his medical, he’ll sign a long-term contract and will be officially confirmed a Spurs player later this week.
Mourinho has made his feelings clear about wanting a new defensive midfielder since his arrival in November, and Hojbjerg could prove to be a shrewd piece of business at only £15m.
Elsewhere, Sky Sports believe that Southampton are expected to confirm a deal for Kyle Walker-Peters, who’ll move in the other direction on permanent basis for around £12m.
It’ll be our 2nd Summer signing I think.
Pretty sure we signed a youngster from Wigan two weeks ago
It will be Tottenham nice summer signing
and l will be happy about that.
Good for them. They need to sign good defensive players. EPL would be tough next season.
