Tottenham are interested in making a shock move to sign Arsenal defender Ainsley Maitland-Niles, according to The Sun.
The 22-year-old made 32 appearances for the Gunners last season – including the FA Cup final victory over Chelsea earlier this month – but started just 15 times in the Premier League for Mikel Arteta’s men and has been put on the transfer market.
Maitland-Niles can play in a variety of positions, which has clearly drawn the attention of Jose Mourinho, whose desperately need to improve his full-back area this summer – with Danny Rose, Serge Aurier and Juan Foyth all linked with moves away from north London.
Arsenal want £30m for Maitland-Niles, who has just under three-years remaining on his current contract, and hasn’t recovered since losing his place at right-back to Callum Chambers after a red card against Aston Villa in September.
However, Spurs have never signed a player from their arch rivals in the Premier League and that trend doesn’t appear likely to start here – especially with Arsenal’s £30m asking price.
