Tottenham are interested in signing Metz striker Habib Diallo, according to reports in France.

On Monday we relayed a story from Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport claiming Spurs are keen on Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik but are unwilling to meet his €40 million asking price.

And now it seems Tottenham have turned their attentions elsewhere in their search for back-up for Harry Kane and Son Heung-min up front.

L’Equipe in France, as relayed by freelance sports writer Robin Bairner, is suggesting Spurs are looking at Diallo, who apparently is also wanted by newly-promoted Leeds United.

Diallo, a 25-year-old Senegal international, scored 12 goals and registered three assists in 26 appearances in the French top flight this season (via Transfermarkt).

The step up from Ligue 1 to the Premier League has proven difficult for some in the past, with the likes of Georges-Kevin Nkoudou and Clinton Njie both struggling after moving to Tottenham from France.

That’s not to say Diallo isn’t good enough for Spurs, but the Londoners ought to remember those past examples when deciding whether to make their interest concrete.

  1. If we were smart, we would be going for Ollie Watkins from Brentford and loaned them Troy Parrott. Would of been a win for us, them and Troy.
