Tottenham have confirmed the signing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton.

According to multiple outlets, including Sky Sports, Spurs will pay £15 million plus bonuses for Hojbjerg, while Kyle Walker-Peters has move the other way after a successful loan spell at St Mary’s.

Hojbjerg has been one of Southampton’s standout players in recent seasons but was stripped of the club captaincy earlier this year having not signed a new contract.

With one year remaining on the midfielder’s deal, Tottenham pounced and announced Hojbjerg’s arrival on a five-year contract on Tuesday.

The Denmark international is expected to sit at the base of Spurs’ midfield, with Jose Mourinho seemingly aiming to provide more protection for the back four.

A midfield of Hojbjerg, Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele is an exciting prospect if the latter can put a difficult debut season behind him and settle in north London.

The likes of Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko and Gedson Fernandes will all provide competition for the regular starters.

Following the announcement’s of Hojbjerg’s arrival, some Tottenham fans expressed their approval on Twitter. Here are some of the best reactions.

  1. * why do the club and fans have to go mental over every transfer?
let`s be clear, he may be OK but from what i`ve seen he`s not going to be the difference between us being crap and winning trophies – makes me laugh that fans are losing their S*&! over a player most of them have not even seen play and know nothing about.
is this what being a fan is about now, who their club buys and how much they spend?
social media keyboard warriors with too much time on their hands, most of them never even go to matches, posting “announce bale” on every football related site throughout the summer – sad!
