Birmingham City are interested in signing Tottenham’s Jack Clarke on a season-long loan deal, according to We Are Birmingham.
Since joining Spurs in a £10m deal last summer, the 19-year-old has played just 10 times across two loan spells at both former club Leeds United and Queens Park Rangers in what turned out to be an extremely frustrated campaign for the highly-rated teenager.
Clarke made just three appearances for the Whites and returned to Tottenham in January before immediately heading back out on loan to QPR. However, the winger’s fortunes didn’t improve and appeared just seven times at Loftus Road – including one start in the FA Cup.
With less than 50 senior games under his belt, another loan deal is paramount for Clarke next season, although we relayed a recent report from the Evening Standard, which suggested that Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is going to give the youngster an opportunity to impress in pre-season in a bid to win a place in his squad.
But Birmingham are keen on bringing Clarke to St Andrew’s for the whole of next season.
I would be looking for proven rather than potential for the first team this season. We have potential in U23s etc, why look outside for key places this season. We must consolidate a mid table place at least, that would prove to be a success given the last few years, then look to kick on with introducing younger players with potential into a solid set up.
