Tottenham are close to completing the signing of Matt Doherty – and have reportedly agreed a fee for the Wolves right-back, according to The Athletic.
Spurs have been looking to upgrade on Ivory Coast international Serge Aurier all summer and the reliable Alasdair Gold from Football.London first revealed Spurs’ interest on Tuesday afternoon – with Jose Mourinho keen on signing the Republic of Ireland full-back.
The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brook believes that Wolves initially set an asking price of £20m for Doherty, who was involved in seven Premier League goals as the Midlands outfit finished 7th last season, but the two clubs have now settled on £15m for the 28-year-old.
With Tottenham set to sell Aurier to one or AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen – who’ve both been linked according to Sky Sports – signing Doherty would represent a significant upgrade for Jose Mourinho in the right-back department.
If Spurs complete the deal, Doherty would become their third player through the door this summer after Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton and free agent Joe Hart, as the Portuguese continues a revamp in north London after their disappointing sixth-place finish last term.
