Tottenham have been offered the chance to sign Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa – with the former Chelsea man keen on a reunion with Jose Mourinho, according to the Daily Star.

The 31-year-old has just one year remaining on his Atletico contract, and has scored only 17 goals in 74 appearances since returning to the Spanish capital from Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2017 after previously winning two Premier League titles with the Blues.

One of those came under Mourinho, and the Daily Star believes that the La Liga giants are willing to offload Costa after his poor goalscoring return in recent seasons – with the player reportedly “open” to a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Mourinho is desperate to sign another striker, especially with Tottenham facing a potential gruelling schedule in the opening months of the campaign with the possibility of 26 games in all competitions prior to Christmas if they progress in the Europa League and Carabao Cup.

The Portuguese has already been linked with a move for Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson, but the report suggests that Costa would be a significantly cheaper option due to the fact his Atletico deals expires next summer.

  1. Any striker is better than no striker – but this one seems a bad one – an ageing player who is out of form, minimal resell value and had a run in with Mourinho in Stamford bridge during the season of tears which led to Mourinho leaving Chelsea. Played a role in Chelsea’s triumph but that is more than 3 season’s ago. Things have gone downhill for Costa since then. Pass.

  2. Nah, no way, has always been a problem player, and not good for the club’s image. Plus, he went off the boil at chelsea leading up to jose being fired. Dont think Jose would want him.
Take a young striker like Myron Boadu who may be better, but ultimately we need a creatir more than a striker. We have a potent swt of goalscorers but no creator to connect them.
As we saw with Eriksen before, if Kane is injured Son and Alli will score for fun. When we lose eriksen, we must replace him as it affects our whole attack negatively that we arent creating. It affects Kane, Alli and Son’s market value, goal stats and our performances and points totals…

  3. What if Le celso gets injured or loses form? …we relied on Eriksen for 5 years as our only creative player and when he lost form / interest in that last season we were f+*!ed let`s get another creative AMF – would love Rackatic!!

BTW agree with 1st comment no to DG however good he was at Chelsea he`s been poor & injury prone in the last couple of seasons

    • I wrote about this for 5 years. I have never seen a club without a real #10 and one creative mid. The problem is your number to should be able to fill the slot at 9 when he is not available, but we have 3 players short to cover the 2 position all throughout Poch reign and it is not being address. I would take Costa for that reason. He can cover 9 and 10 easily and he knows he is going to get limited time. My reasoning: a younger cannot handle the short term demands. He would of to prove too much in short spells and that csn weigh heavy on young players. Also, because we are in a silver Wear and top 4 chase sending Parrot out for a year is the right thing to do. He needs to be in a settled team. If we were in the top 4, i would be against it.
