Spurs kick-off their Premier League 2020-2021 campaign against Everton on Sunday and could have two new faces in their starting line-up.
Jose Mourinho remains in the market for another striker, but has already signed Joe Hart, although he’ll be on the bench, whilst deals for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton and Matt Doherty from Wolves have significantly strengthened the Portuguese’s squad.
Hojbjerg was bought in to bring extra protection to a vulnerable Tottenham defence and is expected to make his Spurs debut, whilst Doherty could, too, although he only began training on Tuesday and will have a maximum of five sessions with his new teammates.
Doherty also has competition from last seasons first-choice right-back Serge Aurier, whose been linked with a move away from Tottenham throughout the summer, although he’s still featured heavily in pre-season and played 90 minutes at Watford on Saturday.
If Doherty doesn’t feature against the Toffees, he’ll hope to play in Spurs’ Europa League qualifier in Bulgaria next Thursday. But whenever the Republic of Ireland defender gets his Tottenham career underway, he’s relishing the challenge.
