Tottenham defender Juan Foyth is set to join Villarreal on a season-long loan, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Foyth joined Spurs from Argentine side Estudiantes in the summer of 2017 but has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter under Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho.
The 22-year-old centre-back – who can also play on the right, where he is a starter for the Argentina national team – hasn’t featured at all this season and it looks like he may have played his final game for Tottenham.
That’s because the ever reliable Romano claims Foyth is ‘expected to join’ Villarreal on an initial loan deal, but the Spanish giants can make the move permanent for a future fee of just €15 million.

Of course, there is a chance things won’t go well for Foyth in Spain and he could return to Spurs next summer, but the inclusion of a buy option suggests the Londoners are willing to let him leave for good.
It’s a shame because Foyth has shown moments of real class, particularly when bringing the ball out from the back – at the same time he has looked shaky on occasion and perhaps lacks the physicality to succeed as a centre-back for a Mourinho team.
Just goes to show that Jose cannot bring youth on! Yet another “work in progress” player farmed out for a better coach to unlock the potential.
Spurs should moth ball the academy as there will be no progression to the first team! Potential talent should move elsewhere to be nurtured and polished for first team football.

Geoff james, 100% right, he will destroy our youth set up and our club. Worst signing Spurs have made, ever, is Jose Mourhino, Bill Nick would be turning in his grave if he saw how the club was being run. Never rated Foyth, but it appears that any of our young players, will be shipped out if Mourhino doesn’t like them.
