Tottenham are expected to cut Gedson Fernandes’ loan spell short and send the midfielder back to Benfica in January, according to Spanish outfit A Bola.
The 21-year-old joined on an 18-month loan deal from the Portuguese outfit in January, but has struggled for opportunities under Jose Mourinho.
Fernandes played 63 minutes of Spurs’ Carabao Cup tie against Chelsea earlier this month – his only appearance this term, however.
And since then the Portugal Under-21 international has been left out of Mourinho’s squad for the Europa League group stages.
Fernandes has featured 13 times for Tottenham in total, although he is yet to start a Premier League game this season and hasn’t been included in a single matchday squad this term.
Spurs have the option to buy the midfielder permanently at the end of the campaign for around €50-million, according to Sky Sports.
However, A Bola believe that Tottenham aren’t interested in a transfer and could send Fernandes back to the Portuguese capital once the January window re-opens.
