Dele Alli has been left out of Tottenham’s squad to face Burnley in the Premier League tonight, according to the Athletic.

The report says Alli is ‘not injured’ despite not travelling north with the rest of the first-team squad.

Alli scored Spurs’ equaliser from penalty spot in this exact fixture last season after Chris Wood had opened the scoring for the hosts. The 24-year-old stepped up in the absence of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min during a particularly difficult period of the previous campaign.

But it looks like he will not be given the opportunity to impress at Turf Moor this time as Jose Mourinho continues to rely less and less on the midfielder.

Alli has not featured in a Premier League game since Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat to Everton on the opening weekend. He did make if off the bench against LASK on Thursday night, but it is perhaps worrying that he isn’t even trusted to start Europa League matches.

He posted a two-word response – “Good times” – to a video of his penalty against Burnley on Twitter.

Indeed, this very much looks like the beginning of the end for Alli at Spurs. He will surely need to force a move in January to revive his hopes of playing for England at the European Championships this summer.

  1. Why do we keep looking to make something out of nothing…. Dele is a very talented young man, who has lost his way, he has lost his England place, which has too hurt when squads are chosen, with players not as talented are picked. He isn’t good enough for spurs at the moment, and if he is honest he knows it. Give him time and space to find his form. If he gives up, and won’t fight, then he hasn’t the mental ability and we have lost nothing. Dele please stay, please show your form, please knuckle down, please leave social media alone, stop feeling sorry for yourself, understand you are criticed because of your great talent and people demand it from you, gonna be a great season plz be a part of it, no true spurs supporter wants you to go, come back stronger

    • Crap crap and crap. You can loose your form, but not your talent and he is not a winger, striker or a #10. He is a midfieder with an eye for goal. He is been woefully playing out of position since the middle of his first year when Poch discover he has some goals. The reason it was not obvious was because we had Erikssen planted at the number 10. Sissoko and Dier maybe the 2 least talented players in our first team, but they are once again playing their natural positions. The problem for Alli is that, they fill his position with Locelso and Tanguy. We do not even have a reknown playmaker presently in our academy. While Dele needs to buckle down and fight for the position manager has assigned him which he cannot compete with the current holders. Put that with Jose seems to always want a boogeyman. Rose, Tanguy, now Alli. You know who will be next. Sanchez

      • Possibly the most nonsense I’ve read in a while, well done. Danny Rose is Mourinhos fault? His demise had come about long before Mourinho arrived, but some people want any excuse to put down Jose. I suppose covid and Brexit are his fault too. Oh well never let facts get in the way of a good rant.

        • Maybe. If you comprehend the story is about Dele Alli. Nowhere did I say Danny was Jose fault. My point which you miss, no matter where Jose goes. He never cease to have a boogeyman to fall on. Danny did not conduct himself in the most professional manner, but when you take into account his seniority and what he did for the club, Jose and Levy should be the adults and move him with some grace instead of discarding him the way they did. You completely miss the point of my post. And like i said Alli has no way, because he is not a #10. It is that you just watch the game with no other knowledge off the pitch?. Am not even British, I am an American by way of Jamaica, coach and played the game.

          • I didn’t miss your point, I simply have neither the time nor the inclination to trawl through every part of it like I’m your school teacher marking your work.
How is Rose a “boogeyman” for Jose? He had mouthed off anywhere and everywhere long before Jose arrived, so is Jose supposed to indulge this behaviour? What sort of example does that send to the dressing room? Also the club has not just discarded him. The club tried to move him on, but he is deluded about where he should be. He thinks he should be playing at the highest level, the reality is even Newcastle didn’t want him.
And no I don’t “just watch the game with no other knowledge off the pitch”, but thank you for enquiring.
