Tottenham were held by Crystal Palace on Sunday, but were without Gareth Bale for the 1-1 draw at Selhurst Park.
Harry Kane’s long-range effort opened the scoring for Jose Mourinho’s side, who were pegged back late on following Jeffrey Schlupp’s 81st-minute equaliser.
However, there was no place in the 18-man matchday squad for the Welshman for the first time since his summer move from Real Madrid.
After some lacklustre recent performances in the Europa League from Bale, it was unclear whether he was injured or just not included in the travelling party for tactical reasons.
But Mourinho cleared things after before the game in South London, confirming that Bale was ill, although it wasn’t COVID-related and should return to face Liverpool on Wednesday.
