Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Gareth Bale suffered an injury during the first-half of Tottenham’s Carabao Cup victory against Stoke City.

The Welshman was making his first domestic start since the victory at West Brom back in November, and headed Mourinho’s side in front following a superb cross from Harry Winks.

However, Bale appeared to suffer an injury in the final few seconds in the opening period, and didn’t come out for the second-half – with Heung Min Son replacing the 31-year-old.

Fortunately for Bale and Tottenham, late goals from Ben Davies and Harry Kane secured Spurs’ passage into the semi-finals of the competition for the first time since 2019.

Mourinho was asked about Bale’s substitution, and said: “His decision. Something he felt. He told me immediately when walking to the dressing room.” (Quotes via Football.London).

Despite a lacklusture performance at times, it was great to see Bale back on the scoresheet, and with games coming thick and fast, hopefully the Welshman’s problem is nothing more than a minor injury and he’ll be available for the festive period.
