Tottenham are interested in signing RB Leipzig midfielder Marcel Sabitzer in the January transfer window, according to German football journalist Christian Falk.

Sabitzer scored twice against Spurs in the Champions League Round of 16 last season as Leipzig dumped Jose Mourinho’s side out of the competition.

And if reports are to be believed, Mourinho was impressed with what he saw.

Falk, who writes for Sport BILD in Germany, claims the Tottenham boss is keen to bring Sabitzer to north London next month – and, likewise, Sabitzer is eager to join Spurs.

It is believed Leipzig are unable to raise the 26-year-old’s salary as he is already the club’s highest earner, meaning he may seek an exit.

Sabitzer’s current deal expires in only 18 months in the summer of 2022, so Tottenham probably won’t want to pay full price.

Spurs are already relatively strong in attacking midfield with Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso both impressing this season, but Sabitzer’s eye for a goal would improve Mourinho’s options further.

With that in mind, it seems a no-brainer to go for Sabitzer if he is affordable.

  1. Sabitzer also offers a RAW midfielder option and with Bale not clicking he is one for the future with an immediate impact. Goals plus assists and a high work rate and quality on the ball.
