Tottenham are interested in signing Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa, according to the Athletic.
Konsa has started 20 Premier League games so far this season, helping Villa to keep their goals against tally at just 24 – only Manchester City have conceded fewer in the top-flight this term.
The Athletic claims Spurs were interested in the 23-year-old in 2019 when it looked like Toby Alderweireld’s release clause would be triggered, but Alderweireld ended up staying and Konsa joined Villa from Brentford.
He has since become one of the Premier League’s most consistent performers, so much so that the Athletic believes Gareth Southgate is considering calling Konsa up for England.
And the report also suggests Spurs and Liverpool could do battle for the centre-back’s signature this summer.
Konsa’s current contract expires in the summer of 2023, meaning it’s likely Villa will be keen to extend his deal so that they do not lose him on the cheap any time soon.
Tottenham are in desperate need of a new centre-back with none of the current crop impressing on a consistent basis – Konsa could be the answer.
