Tottenham are among a host of Premier League clubs monitoring Schalke starlet Matthew Hoppe, according to 90Min.
Hoppe, a striker, has scored five goals in eight Bundesliga starts this season and is making waves in his native America, such is the talent he is demonstrating at just 19 years of age.
And 90Min claims his performances are attracting interest from Spurs, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United. A series of Italian and Spanish clubs are also said to be fond of the teenager.
Financial difficulties at Schalke – coupled with the fact they are likely to be relegated – mean Hoppe could be relatively attainable this summer, and there is a chance Spurs will be chasing a striker.
Carlos Vinicius’ loan spell hasn’t really worked out and so Tottenham may need to sign a new deputy for Harry Kane. Hoppe’s age and talent mean he could also be a long-term successor to Kane in Spurs’ starting line-up.
In any case, Tottenham and Hoppe’s other suitors will be watching closely to see if he can keep up his impressive goal tally between now and the end of the current campaign.
