Son Heung-min has been called up to play for South Korea during the upcoming international break despite limping off with an injury against Arsenal, according to the London Evening Standard.
The Tottenham star lasted just 20 minutes of Sunday’s north London derby defeat before a sudden sprint caused him to clutch his hamstring and leave the pitch.
His replacement, Erik Lamela, scored a stunning rabona goal but was eventually sent off as Spurs lost to their fiercest rivals at the Emirates.
After the game, Mourinho gave an update on Son but will obviously be unable to provide good or bad news until the injury is properly assessed.
Via @SpursOfficial, Mourinho said: “I don’t know how long it is. It’s muscular. Muscular is usually not easy. He’s normally a guy who recovers quickly. It’s an accumulation of matches. I gave him 30 minutes rest in the last match, but it’s still 60 minutes.”
Despite the mystery around the extent of the injury, Son has been selected to play in a friendly for South Korea against Japan on March 25th, says the Standard.
Some might think this means his hamstring is not badly damaged, but it’s more likely that Son has been called up just in case he is given the all-clear to play for his country.
That seems unlikely right now. Even if it’s a minor hamstring injury, Tottenham will surely want the 28-year-old to stay home and recover properly.
