There weren’t many positives for Tottenham in their 3-1 defeat to Manchester United, although Joe Rodon’s performance was one of them.

Second-half goals from Fred, Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood cancelled out Heung Min Son’s opener to leave Spurs’ top four chances and hopes of playing Champions League football next season in tatters.

But whilst there isn’t much to smile about currently in N17, Rodon is a rare bright spark.

The Welshman has generally endured a difficult campaign following his arrival from Swansea, not helped by his omission from the Europa League squad, currently relishing his opportunity in the starting XI ahead of the likes of Toby Alderweireld and co.

Rodon, who did little wrong against United, was comfortably Spurs’ best defender on the day, but he was simply let down by a number of his teammates in yet another poor second-half showing from Jose Mourinho’s team.

Many of the Tottenham faithful took to Twitter to express their delight at Rodon, whilst others simply felt sorry for the 23-year-old.

Here’s what they said about him:

    • Spot on.Regulion was the worst player on the pitch against Newcastle but gets picked today but he is one of mourino’s favourites. The first time rodon makes a mistake and it results in a goal he will be out. The best defences are built on playing together regular, our defence is always chopping and changing, no wonder its rubbish at the moment.

  1. Simple fact. Spurs squad is quite simply not good enough. Surely Daniel Levy realises that every game now devalues his assets as the number of players clearly not good enough at this level are showing themselves up week after week game after game. Here are the ones that I would look to sell.
Lloris, Davies, Dier, Sanchez Alderweireld (only because of his age) Aurier, Winks, Sissoko, Lamella, Moura, Bergwyn, plus the loan players Foyth Carter Vickers etc. I would also reluctently add Ali to that list unless we change the manager. I kept replaying the goals today to show kids the basic faults in our defending. Aurier should have moved to block Cavani giving him no route to goal but sat off and when the ball came in he was to late to recover a situation that he could have avoided by moving 2 feet to block. Basis football. I am not a Mourinhoista but I fell for him because Levy employed him but has not given him his team. A Mourinho team will win albeit not prettily and not in Spurs tradition but, if you employ him let him have his team and not the dregs of someone elses.

  2. Cyril Knowles & Chris Hughton , both class footballers , but before they played they could defend. Wing backs are a luxury in a good team. If you have good wingers , you dont need them as much. Iain is spot on with his list of dregs. Toby just too old now. Complete rebuild from board down. Only Harry & Sonny need stay , but they will probably be only 1s to leave. Rodon will be class
