Tottenham are among the clubs interested in signing Barcelona right-back Emerson Royal, according to reports in Spain.
Emerson is currently on loan at Real Betis from Barcelona. He has scored once and provided four assists in 26 La Liga appearances so far this season.
Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo claims Betis cannot afford to buy him permanently this summer, meaning a number of other suitors could swoop.
And it looks like Emerson, a 22-year-old Brazil international, will have his pick of Europe’s major leagues.
Spurs are said to be keen but they apparently face competition from the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Bayer Leverkusen.
Tottenham may have a difficult time convincing Emerson to sign for them if they fail to qualify for the Champions League, which looks likely.
Indeed, the Londoners may struggle to secure early transfers until Jose Mourinho’s future is made clearer – reports suggest the Portuguese coach could leave in the summer (via Football London).
In any case, Spurs should be looking to strengthen at right-back before the start of next season, and Emerson could be the answer.
The 22-year-old is currently owned by the Catalan team with Betis. Last season, Emerson played very well in the Betis shirt.
