Tottenham will attempt to lure Brendan Rodgers away from Leicester City by offering him a huge salary, according to 90Min.

Spurs are looking to appoint a new manager after sacking Jose Mourinho last week. Ryan Mason has taken charge temporarily but was unable to lead the team to Carabao Cup glory against Manchester City on Sunday.

90Min claims club chairman Daniel Levy has now stepped up the search for Mourinho’s replacement. Former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has apparently applied for the job, but it sounds like Levy wants Rodgers.

And he is willing to pay big for the Leicester manager. 90Min’s story says Tottenham will offer Rodgers £15 million a year in wages, which is more than they were paying Mourinho.

However, it is believed Leicester will match any offer Spurs make. So effectively, whether Rodgers stays at Leicester or leaves will depend on how happy he is at the King Power.

The Foxes have a much better chance of qualifying for the Champions League than Tottenham this term, but 90Min reports that Rodgers may be tempted by the fact Spurs have more financial power, and thus more of a chance of attaining long-term success.

In many ways that is debatable, especially when you consider Tottenham haven’t won anything since the 2008. We will have to wait and see whether Rodgers sees the Londoners as a more enticing prospect than Leicester.

  1. And Leicester have said they would match or better any offer, plus they would be able to offer Champions League football and a better squad to work with.

  2. how about giving potter a chance plays good attacking football, wouldn’t command big wages similar to poch at unfashionable south coast club he’s the one for me

  3. How have Spurs got more financial power? Levy doesn’t pay the players more than Leicester and doesn’t spend money like the rest of the “big” clubs. I don’t really see any difference in terms of financial power.

  4. Stop the big clubs from bullying because they think they can just take who they think he is still under contract to leicester

  5. Brendan Rogers’ relationship with the owners (and board of directors for that matter) far exceeds anything that he can expect to receive from TH.
