Gareth Bale might not get the opportunity to play in front of the Tottenham supporters after Ryan Mason confirmed the on-loan Real Madrid man is doubtful to face Aston Villa on Wednesday night.

The Welshman has featured heavily under the interim head coach, starting all four Premier League games, although that run could come to an end against Dean Smith’s men tomorrow.

Bale has scored four times in those four games, including a hat-trick in the victory over Sheffield United, and impressed once more against Wolves on Sunday, although he wasn’t able to add to his 14 goals this season.

The 31-year-old has just two games remaining before he returns to the Spanish capital, but Mason is unsure whether Bale will be get the opportunity to play in front of the returning Spurs fans, who’ll be back at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the first time since the Europa League game with Royal Antwerp in December.

Mason told Football.London: “Gareth was probably the best I have seen him all season at the weekend. He was sharp, he was running at players, he has that confidence back of playing in repetitive games and he feels confident in his body.

“He also knows his body. He is a question mark for tomorrow. We are not sure whether or not he is going to be ready.”
