Ryan Sessegnon is doubtful for Tottenham’s season-opener against Manchester City on 15 August due to a hamstring problem.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan in the Bundesliga with Hoffenheim, gaining some excellent first-team experience – scoring twice and adding three assists in 23 appearances.

Sessegnon then returned to Hotspur Way for the beginning of pre-season, looking to impress Nuno Espirito Santo having featured just 12 times for Spurs since moving across London from Fulham two years ago.

He was welcomed back by the club’s media team on Twitter following his spell in Germany last season.

However, Sessegnon hasn’t been seen since, and is yet to feature in any of the three pre-season friendlies in recent weeks.

According to Football.London, the former Fulham man suffered a hamstring problem early in pre-season and is seen as “touch and go” to be fit in time to face the Premier League champions at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium two weeks on Sunday.

Sessegnon wouldn’t have featured against City anyway, but he’ll now be looking to get fit as quickly as possible – and might see the early rounds of both the Carabao Cup and UEFA Conference League as his chance to get up to scratch.
