Tottenham have seen a £43m bid for Atalanta defender Cristian Romero accepted, according to talkSPORT.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, who’re looking for a replacement for Toby Alderweireld, have been interested in the 23-year-old for some time and have finally reached a breakthrough following weeks of talks.
Romero, who won the Copa America with Argentina earlier this month and was named in team of the tournament, is currently on loan from Juventus, but Atalanta are expected to buy him from the Italian giants before selling him to Tottenham for £43m plus add-ons.
He made 43 appearances last season, including seven in the Champions League, and will become Santo’s third signing – following his teammate Pierluigi Gollini, who joined on a season long loan from Atalanta last week and Bryan Gil.
With Davinson Sanchez still likely to depart this window, the Spurs boss should still bring in another centre-back, but this is a major coup for the Portuguese just two weeks away from the season-opener against Manchester City.
I’ll only believe it when it is confirmed on the official website with a picture of him holding up a Spurs shirt.
Agreed!
I am excited but just want to see confirmation on sky sports news then I can be really excited
