Harry Kane has not turned up for Tottenham training today despite being expected to do so, according to Sky Sports.
The England captain has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester City, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that Kane believes he has a gentleman’s agreement with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to leave the club this summer.
However, The Athletic has repeatedly claimed Tottenham are determined to keep Kane beyond the close of the current transfer window, suggesting the 28-year-old may have to wait until next year to seal a move away.
His training no-show may put a spanner in the works of those plans. It seems there is now a stand-off between player and club that could result in an ugly divorce or an awkward situation in which Kane is forced to stay for another season.
Either way, many Spurs fans have been having their say on the latest twist in a saga that is sure to last until the end of the summer.
Some voiced their disappointment with Kane while others expressed confusion. See some of the best tweets below.
Disappointed with Kane.
If City aren’t going to offer the money Tottenham have every right to demand for one of the best players in the world with 3 years left on his deal, he needs to honour the contract he signed.
Sigh. It wasn’t meant to end like this, Harry…

Spurs fans protected Harry Kane and in some weird way gave him our blessing to seek pastures new.
Him and his team have had an absolute mare here. Amateur hour.

If the club hasn't given Kane an extra couple of days off at the last minute, I hope it strengthens Levy's resolve to stick to his asking price. No one is bigger than the club, not even Harry. #thfc

For years I’ve defended Kane against any criticism because he’s easily been the most important and special player in my life supporting Spurs. He’s been the icon, “one of our own”, the talisman, etc so I’ve been especially protective.
But Harry Kane is being a bit of a dick.

I hope he's got some assurances from the club he wants to go to (which we assume is City but apparently they can't afford him so who knows…) that they can pay the fee it'll take to get him because it's going to be pretttttttty awkward if they can't.

Im normally anti Levy.
But he can’t be blamed for this.
An asset is worth what an asset is worth.
Kane signed the big money deal.
Levy is entitled to a fair price.
Man City either pay up or go away #COYS #THFC

[…] As relayed by us on Monday, Sky Sports claimed Kane was a no-show at Hotspur Way despite being due to return to training in the morning. […]
Bad move Harry. No respect shown for the club who pay you £200k per week, the fans who love you, and your team mates.
Just get your boots on and report for training tomorrow. Staying away is just weakening your negotiating position. Leave the club by all means at the right price but leave with your dignity and relationship with the fans untarnished!
Perfectly put Michael Strange.
